Youth Moves

Supporting WA youth (15-25yrs) to engage in an evidence-based movement program, in a supportive and non-judgmental environment created by multidisciplinary program leaders and supportive peers. We envision developing an accessible pathway to active recreation, sport and exercise for young people who have the greatest needs, high rates of disengagement, and are currently underserviced within the community. In turn, we hope to improve the mental and physical health outcomes of participants (including managing mental distress and physical activity participation) and build the capacity and inclusive exercise literacy of community exercise providers.

The program consists of mixed active recreation and sport activities (e.g., dance, team sports, gym-based activities, outdoor activities, boxing, strength & conditioning, aerobic activities), to offer these young people the opportunity to participate in and explore various types of active recreation, to build their confidence, knowledge, exposure and motivation for engagement, something that they don’t often experience or have the opportunity for.
