2026 Student Research Projects

Variety of studies available for eligible Honours, Masters or PhD Candidates. 

The team at MHEX work with Honours, Masters and PhD students from various disciplines on projects that align with our core mission. This includes projects with community collaborators and other research institutes and Universities.

Honours and Masters projects are available to students enrolled at UWA, or our collaborating partners Universities (UNSW, Curtin University), and depending on staff workload and capacity to supervise.

Potential projects include:

  • Recovery-focused exercise programs within mental health services for people with disordered eating + maladaptive exercise behaviours
  • Chest Binding, Physical Function, Activity + Health
  • Youth Centred Exercise Recovery Program within Adult Transdiagnostic Mental Health Service
  • Long-Term Exercise Adherence in AYA Cancer Survivors
  • Experiences of Exercise During Cancer Treatment in Adolescent and Young Adults
  • Bone, Muscle, and Balance (BoMB): Exploring high intensity and high impact training on health outcomes of community-based older adults

 

PhD projects are open to Australian domestic and International students who meet the admission requirements for University of Western Australia or one of our collaborating Universities, and have funding/scholarship to study. Some studies require specific skills sets or previous experience and can be discussed with the team.

Potential projects are listed below, but we are open to discussing other project ideas that align with our expertise and interests:

  • Developing a Peer-Based Exercise Model in AYA Cancer Survivorship: A Co-Design Approach
  • Sensory Processing & Cued Exercise (SPaCE) Therapy
  • Physical Literacy, Physical Activity and Wellbeing in Children and Adolescents with Hypothalamic Dysfunction
  • Moving Minds: Enhancing Physical Health & Recovery in Mental Health
  • Move With Me: exercise buddies to support youth mental health
